Stolen Saddle Bag - North Shore

My saddle bag was stolen last night while I was at a Pirates game. (I guess that's what I get for going to the game instead of the map party).

It's a black soma bag with tube, multi tool, park tire levers and a patch kit. I hope the junkie who stole it finds it useful.

You could have brought that into PNC Park, but not Heinz Field. Go figure. I've not had much trouble bringing such things into Pirate games, with the worst case me just going to a different entrance once or twice when an overzealous employee took issue with my pump.

I had been planning to pump up the stadium.

I thought you were going to pump up the jams!

I had a bag-checker at PNC Park ask what was in my water bottle. On being told "Nothing" she said she was sorry, but I couldn't bring it in to the park, but I could empty it "over there". I asked her how I was supposed to get all the nothing out of an empty water bottle, and shook it. And then.. "Oh. Okay, that's alright then, never mind."

But no guff about the pump.

(Yes, ieverhart, it was *that* game.)

I had a TSA checker give me crap because there was about half a mL of water left in my Nalgene bottle. She insisted she empty it. So I told her to go ahead...she opened it over the trash can and maybe 5 drops came out. Seriously? that was the big threat? I breathe out that much water in 10 minutes.

-1 for airline travel. Haven't flown since 9/11, but as long as we continue having this silliness, I'm going to try to continue not flying.

dmtroyer, any ideas on how one might avoid your plight in the future? I think one of the reasons I avoid investing in accessories is fear of theft.

well, I used to take the bag off and take it with me, like I do my lights and computer, but stopped doing that a long time ago.

I have a cheap calbe lock I use to fastem my panier to my bike, sometimes (although it isn't on there now). It wouldn't be hard to break it free, but it would be more obviously a crime than just removing it. To get my stuff without removing the pannier, one would have to go in the black bag and dig through my dark rain gear.

If I was you, dmtroyer, I'd file a complaint with the Pirates about this. I'm assuming you parked somewhere on the PNC Park premises.

Speaking for myself, as I am likely to bike to a ball game if I go at all, I sure wouldn't want to exit the game to find my vehicle vandalized or stripped. Somehow they need to tighten up bike security. Cameras, signs, visibility of the tie-up space, whatever.
