Stu this is for you

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/12/science/earth/12suburb.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0 Sorry if I posted this link before. I am on a few bike forums, but I remember Stu having a dream. This place is his dream. I wish I could afford it. I am so tired of the death on the roads. It is getting me down. I am getting crazier on the roads in a way. Not good. It is becoming stressful and not as fun. I really hate cars and don't enjoy driving one anymore. I just want to ride.

Cool stuff, thanks for the tip! I may have more to say on it later, but it's been a long day.

Could we all get together and take over one stinking spot in our region? No f'n cars? We can dream can't we?

And I would say that my Choice #1 for that would be the current Northway Mall in Ross Twp. The mall has been rebuilt three times in the 20 years I've lived out here, and underwent at least one transmogrification prior to that. It's a huge piece of real estate that's crying out for something to be done with it, but retail doesn't quite work. It has two bus routes rolling through it, and used to have several others. It's right next to everything. But as a mall, it's failed several times. It's an asphalt desert. What it needs is people. There are plenty of fringe spaces on the outskirts of the property that could be used to warehouse a few cars, but most of the space is underutilized. Leave the Aldi grocery there; it's a separate building, and serves a very useful purpose. But redevelop the whole rest of the place to be a residential and multi-purpose community, without cars, like Vauban.
