I have a SA "AW" model and really like it. I run it mated to what I think is a 17t primary drive cog in the rear and a 43T in the front and it gets me around the PGH area just fine. I typically pull my kids (2) in a trailer behind me as well.

Also, I rode it from Pgh to Philly in the Crush the Commonwealth last spring and placed in the top 5 - so it can cover some distance and get you over most hills (that aren't too steep).

I bought mine at Kraynicks, if that helps as a shameless plug for Gerry.

I found an old Shimano 3CC 3-speed coaster brake and put it on a new rim. After much tinkering and some locating of minor parts at Kraynicks and Freeride it's now fully functional. I've always been a fan of 3-speeds and coaster brakes but didn't know until this last summer they come combined, like a dream come true. They must have built it just for me. I like it so much I ordered a Shimano 7-speed coaster brake and a Velocity rim to put it on, the back wheel will cost more then I've ever spent on a whole bike. I don't have it running yet and I'm thinking of the 8-speed with drum brake, 325% ratio.

Nice. I've been giving thought to converting my beater 'bent to a 7- or 8-speed with an internally geared hub. The Sturmey-Archer 8-speed hubs look really tempting, especially since direct drive is at the bottom of the range.

I've found the best prices and selection at Jenson USA, I'm wondering if Sturmey-Archer sells direct.

i have an 8 speed with a drum brake on a velocity rim, i probably have close to 25000 miles on it at this point and i'm starting to feel the wear and tear on the hub (it still works fine though)... the crazy thing is its still the original chain and cogs, i've just been waiting for it to break and it hasn't... tough life.. whenever the chain breaks i'm going to down my gear ratio a bit now that i use it a lot for hauling lots of stuff with a cetma rack.

i would definitely recommend it and know someone selling an 8speed nexus if you're interested in buying.

Is the 8speed nexus that's for sale a drum brake? Is it on a wheel? I'm interested.
