the old tire width to rim width problem

so, according to sheldon brown i stretch the rules of the tire width to rim width game on a regular basis... i am building up an old mtb with crappy flipflop wheelset and 700c x 35c tires for the winter extravaganza... this means:

622x14 rims (alexrims rt450)

622x35 tires (schwable racing ralph)

am i begging for a rim failure or is all this worrying for nothing?

i left it filled up to 85 psi for 24 hours, no sign of bending in the braking surface or anything, probably going to finish the build friday at kraynicks.
