I would suggest not riding; maybe walking.
The paths get pretty narrow in places, and even on a typical summer evening there's way too many people for cycling to to feel comfortable rolling through. Lots of small children.
Does anyone know if the North Shore trail around the casino and Heinz Field will be open to riders this weekend during the regatta? I imagine one would have to walk a bike through because of the crowds but would anything be completely off limits?

Yup, the North Shore trail around the stadiums is fenced off and there are a ton of oblivious pedestrians around the Point so I would avoid that area for now.
Anything about a detour, either direction? Any thoughts on usability, if present? Any suggestions, if absent?
I didn't encounter any blocked trails while walking back and forth between the casino and the 6th Street bridge, Saturday afternoon and evening. Perhaps any blockage was just during the boat races?
There were lots of bikes everywhere. About half the cyclists were walking their bikes, the rest trying to ride through the crowds, but not going much faster than the ones walking. If you're biking there on Sunday, you might be better off using roads, not paths, to get between the various events, when possible. The roads generally seemed far less crowded than the paths.
