US Steel Tower Fountain

Anyone know what the monstrosity is that is being erected over the fountain in the US Steel Tower courtyard? At first I thought it might be a sweet Christmas Tree platform .

It's a HUGE nativity scene--life size. It's an identical replica of the one at the Vatican

i wonder how many poor could have been clothed and fed with the money they spent and continue to spend on this thing...

"First erected in 1999 through the work of the Christian Leaders Fellowship, the Pittsburgh Crèche appears again through generous gifts from Pittsburgh labor unions, businesses, religious communities and other community members."

Don't worry about it. They're doing the Lord's work. It benefits somebody. Somehow. I think.

Some people have their creches, some people have their model railroads. Whatever floats your holiday boat, I guess. But a simple passing through of pirates and strippers would be fun.

I'm not sure from whence that notion came, but I heartily endorse it.

well on the plus side it DOES give the church something to distract them from butting into our government and telling women what they can and cant have in the healthcare bill...

i'm little grumpy about the church and their lack of separation from the state today.

I wonder if the religion thread will beat the "Who Owns a Car?" thread? Any gamblers out there? What's the over under?

I'll stay neutral and collect the money. teehee.

Heretic! Everyone knows that the Invisible Pink Unicorn is the only acceptable addition to a nativity scene...

Definitely not, they didn't notice a "stumbling whiskey monster" that got in there and fell asleep about three years ago, after the monster got it's fill of beer and whiskey on the southside and was attempting to return to its' lair on the Northside.

I'm sympathetic to the pastafarians, but I still like the creche. It's pretty, and traditional, and an awfully attractive fantasy. It's not like 14-foot-high rolling billboards of aborted fetuses.

I could actually tolerate it if they weren't playing the music on the plaza all the time as well.

If only we lived in a place where we could practice christian faith in public! If only... oh wait. There is a giant nativity scene downtown?
