Wow, talk about inappropriate examples. That's the opposite of blight in Garfield. Sure it's not as pretty and fancy as Voluto... but a simple glance at Yelp will show Kraynicks as one of the highest-rated stores in the entire city... not to mention testimony from countless bicyclists
Viva la Kraynick’s! (Ported from Craigslist)

WQED had a program on earlier in the week about the renaissance of the Garfield community. In the beginning they mention the area still has a lot of blight and then they showed the front of Kraynick’s bike shop as an example!
I thought it might be a good idea to give the old guy a free clean up of the store’s front facade. Jerry truly is a gem of the Pittsburg bicycle community and lets just about anyone work on their junk in his place. It’s about time some of us give him a little pay back for his generosity.
With his permission I suggest we hit the front of the joint with a pressure washer and then repaint the steel gate. I’ll contribute a gallon of black Rustoleum for the gate. A bunch of guys could knock this out in an hour or two.
Are their any artist types out there who’s willing to step up to give his marquee a fresh coat?
Send me an email with your thought or suggestions. I’m going to shop tomorrow to true up a few wheels and I’ll run the plan past Jerry.
Thanks

There is a reason Jerry's shop looks like that....
I'll wager he won't be keen on having someone clean it up.
Seconded what eric said.
If he does go for it, however, you can count me in for painting and any woodwork that might need to be done. I live right down the street anywho.
I can't get the link to work, but I'm an "artsy" type and will help with whatever. Jerry is the man.
It's possible to clean up the front so it doesn't look like blight, without changing the look of his place.
I'll bring a pressure washer if he goes for it.
looks like the clist ad was taken down. I'm guessing that means Gerry didn't warm up to the idea so greatly.
I fear that with the re-development rolling through (if I remember correctly I think the sidewalk around there is supposed to be rebuilt) folks will be putting a lot of pressure on him to clean up.
Oh I hope they don't get around to replacing/fixing the parking meters (for after all, when I am going to Kraynicks, I am driving as my bike is nonfunctional at the time)
If it does happen, my business would happily contribute a nice new sign.
He's going to be in there until that building falls in around him, and after three days he'll emerge from under the rock that is John, unscathed yet groggy, holding his favorite spoke wrench and his cordless phone.
