Volunteers Needed at Marathon: Free Shirt!
Hey everybody, I'm helping Sustainable Pittsburgh/ Walls are Bad's launch their Great Outdoors Week event and they need your help to get the word out. At the PGH Marathon Sunday may 15th.
We'll be hosting a fluid station during the marathon from around 6-am to noon as well as having some teams to flyer at some of the neighborhood festivals during the event. There will be different shifts available.
So if you want to be outside, get a handsome free t-shirt, help rep Great Outdoors Week (which Includes Bike to Work Day and Pedal Pittsburgh!) and win my undying gratitude. Let me know!
i hear scott is running in this. you could harass him.
Come say hi to the runners! I'll actually know where I'm going this year!
I'll be doing the half.....very slowly. Let me know which fluid station you'll be manning, if it is in the half marathon course.
i heard it the marathon topped out at like 22,000? the pg headline said "Pittsburgh Marathon Sold Out" and my first thought was how a marathon can be a sell-out. duh.
What a sell-out. :p
So anyways, let me know if you want to volunteer! We'll need a bunch of bodies at the fluid station on mile 25 at 7th and Liberty from around 6:30am (ouch) to 12:45pm. We'll also need some teams to cover the neighborhood festivals on the route and hand out some fliers and stuff. Dare I say Street Teaming.
How will runners get from start to mile 25 by 6:30 am with a 7 am start? I do see the need to set up before anyone arrives, but that will be hours later than 6:30.
@helens: THOSE runners are participating in the space/time continuum relay. They start at 7:00 AM, travel back in time to 4:15, proceed from there. They should pass themselves somewhere around the 12 or 13-mile mark, at which point all reality grinds to a halt and life as we know it ceases.

Sounds like every cycling forum everywhere during winter...
I just got back from my podiatrist appointment. Apparently I tore something important in my foot and will not be able to run. I already have my bib on Craigslist. So I guess I'll be handing out water.
@Joe; I am so sorry to hear that! It'll be tough, watching rather than running.
Marty the libyans!
Just kidding, no one is running back in time. Those are the hours I was notified of, volunteers may be able to come out later than 6:30am but I haven't figured out all the shifts yet.
ted i can be at a station at mile 25! i hung out around mile 21 last year and it was insane. its really amazing! since i live near mile 25 do i need to report to the start? that would suck, id rather just show up since all the roads will be closed and it will be early as hell.
ill email you, i owe you a message anyway.
Still need volunteers. All the cool kids are doing it.
I thought it was kind of ironic having "sustainable" with free shirts, but then I read their about page and realized it wasn't that kind of sustainable
touche, you want to make an omelet you gotta print some t-shirts.
