Water in Roundbottom?

So my friend went to Ohiopyle on the GAP 2 weeks ago and said that the water pump at Roundbottom was broken, leaving like 60miles between pumps. Has this been fixed yet? We are planning to take a trip this weekend, and were wondering if anyone has used it since.

No water at Roundbottom. The pump there has been shut off for some time, from what I understand it is because of mine contamination of the well.

There is water at Cedar Creek and then again in Connellsville. It's about ~20 miles between them, nowhere near 60.

There's a 2-1/2 person fountain at Yough Park in Connellsville. As you're headed eastbound, Yough Park is as you enter Connellsville where the trail becomes asphalt. The fountain and restrooms are along the trail before you travel under the Route 119 bridge that is currently under construction.

It works. I was there yesterday.

It is pretty sad, but when I read the subject, I pictured this:

Sigh.

"from what I understand it is because of mine contamination of the well."

Awesome. While we're at it let's frack the crap out of the Marcellus shale too, for some gas. Then we'll have to buy all our water from the Coca-cola Corp.

@edmonds

pretty much my thoughts.

Nice. I drank very heavily from that well last summer when I camped out on my way to Ohipyle...

RANT AHEAD.

This is what the right-wing refers to as "basic economic freedoms." For example, "we'll work with Venezuela as soon as they allow basic economic freedoms."

The alternative is "socialism." We wouldn't want that now, would we? If we get socialism, then illegal immigrants will get all our benefits and they speak Spanish. Keep your government hands off my shale!

Really superletour? I've camped at Roundbottom at least once each spring/summer for 3 years now and that pump has been shut off for the duration. I've never known it to work. And for what it's worth, the mine contamination story came from other trail users I chatted up, so who knows how true it is. What is true is that the pump doesn't work.

I've either carried water in from Cedar Creek or used a water filter and drank from the river.

Vandals burned down one of the two boy scout style bunks at Roundbottom sometime in the past year, but I'm pretty sure the pump was turned off by an authority of some sort.

I read you loud and clear.

If a little socialism is necessary to keep my drinking water from being contaminated by greedy, unregulated corporations forcing me to buy bottled water from other greedy unregulated corporations then bring it on.

(Yea, I heard the sarcasm in the previous statement. There is none here.)

Hmm, yeah, I definitely remember using that pump last year. Water was definitely not clear or super fresh-tasting, though. Also remember having a hell of a headache in the morning after I camped. I'd definitely believe it if there were a high sulfur or iron oxide content, what with the coal mining runoff. It's certainly not far from a bright red stream or two...
