They finally have their site back on line - it has been down for months. I'm going to try and do this tonight.

@stefb http://bike-pgh.org/events/calendar/ -- look at the last ride today. :)

I am not going today and I cannot join until mid of May. But then I ride with them.

But I will ride with them on Saturday:

17 Miles, X 2 (C, 17, 34mi, hills)

This is for you if you have not been putting in the miles early this season. We'll start off with an easy 17 mile loop, then for those who want more, we'll do a more challenging 17 mile loop. The guys at Performance will open a little early for us to get last minute items.

When Sat Mar 31 10am – 1pm Eastern Time

Where The Performance Store parking lot, 6375 Penn Ave, 15206

and Sunday:

April Fools Ride (1000 miles/ 26mph avg/ Mt. Everest)

Just Kidding, we'll do about 45 miles, no drop with cue sheets.

When Sun Apr 1 9am – 12:30pm Eastern Time

Where 885 Progress St, 15212 (The Northside end of the 16th St bridge)

is it cool to show up to this in work clothes?

dmtroyer
2012-03-28 20:35:03

also does one have to be a member to ride?

dmtroyer

^ Last year there was usually a mix of styles, but spandex was common. Come on out it's a good friendly group.

Edit2: they usually leave PROMPTLY at 6:30 too. No you don't have to be a membeer.

marko82

You do not need to be a member to ride

An "All Work Clothes" ride would be cool, esp if we could get some cops and bus drivers to ride. And a construction worker and a native American. Oh crap, I'm thinking of a different ride.

Hmm There is a free basic bike maintenance class at thick at 9am that I may go to. I am not sure I want to do anything more than a few miles the day after a 200k, but I glad to hear there are weekend rides also.

Thanks for the links. I am not the best at navigating things on my phone.

I'm sitting here in my office listening to the wind. don't get blown away tonight guys.

also, @stephb, nice pic.

Yeah single speed vs the wind = slow.

stefb
2012-03-28 22:00:25

@Stefb, ask Jim Logan about rides -- he is the president of WPW. :)

@dmtroyer, you don't need to be a member to ride. For Wednesdy ride I saw people on a different bikes (road, MTB, fixes, singlespeed, touring, etc). Weekend rides are mostly road bikes. We can ask Shelia, I believe she is registered on this forum.

2012-03-29 02:29:15

I'm a member and I do this ride often in the summer. Nonmembers can ride. Everyone is asked to sign in. Rides are open to everyone: spandex, work clothes, fixies, tri bikes, whatev. Very easy going group of folks. I highly recommend this ride.

How was the wind last night? My whole house was shaking from some of the gusts.

Had a blast! We went OTB->Jail Trail->Strip->Polish Hill->Oakland->OTB. Not very far, and definitely faster than 12-15mph as advertised. Wind was a bit troublesome on the jail trail but we had a conga line going (for better or for worse)

dmtroyer
2012-03-29 12:41:48

We held 17mph on the trail in conga line, not sure once we hit the streets. But we did stop multiple times to let folks catch up too, so don't be scared away if you are considering coming out.

marko82
2012-03-29 17:20:51

@dmtroyer -- 12-15 mph is an average (Class C in terms of WPW). With all stops, traffic lights, rest stops, and uphills it would be often around 18 mph on flats.

Sorry, I should tell it earlier.

Marko82 is right. And there is always one of the leaders with at the end of pack.

2012-03-29 17:27:02

who's going tonight?

dmtroyer
2012-04-04 14:47:32

I am feeling a bit worn out today. I planned on going, but it is looking more doubtful.

stefb
2012-04-04 18:11:11

I'll probable be there, but I plan on riding mid-pack.

marko82

North park. Pie traynor. Ride in the woods. Cars are dumb.

So now that I live only a measly 4.5 miles from work, I'm looking for more week day rides.

I was looking at team decaf, but that is an awkward night for me. Plus, this would give me an excuse to eat delicious OTB seitan wings.

So I'll probably be showing up one of these weeks.

myddrin
2012-04-05 13:39:40

mmmmmmm.... OTB seitan. so good.

dmtroyer
2012-04-05 13:45:44

Boooooooo.

stefb
2012-04-11 19:54:47

Agreed... I was going to show up for this one. Instead, I'm off to the dollar theater to finally see Chronicle.

myddrin
2012-04-11 20:25:47

Chronicle was good. Thought it would be more teenagery but not the case.
