What the hell was that?

Last evening I went out for a nice ride around town. I rode past pnc park and on the Roberto Clemente bridge to the city side, took a left onto ft duquesne blvd, and then another left onto the sidewalk to get to the ramp that went down to the new trail off of the Andy warhol bridge. When i turned onto said sidewalk, there was a hefty, 40s-ish balding man with long hair (what was left) holding a cup, which I assume was for change. Just looking at him, i got the vibe that he may have a psych disorder of some type. He was standing beyond the point of where I needed to turn to get on said ramp. The guy saw me coming and started to walk toward me, doing some spin moves as he walked. Luckily I made my turn onto the ramp before he got close enough to do a footsweep type of maneuver at my front wheel. I was just so dumbfounded and I really didn't think it would be a good idea to stop, slow down, or say a thing. Weirdest interaction in a long time. I suppose he could have taken my bike out had he been closer. It was odd because there were quite a few people around, trickling out of the pirates game. i thought that surely he wasn't going to footsweep my bike.

Well if he had succeeded, in front of the Pirates game he may have become the next victim of PNC park police security.

So the freaks don't only come out at night?

I'm not sure how I'd handle that. It would happen so fast. Maybe I'd do a last-minute change of mind and change direction real fast. Maybe I'd issue a stern "excuse me!" and make eye contact, the better to disarm any evil intent. Maybe I'd aim right for the bastard if evil intent is clear and unavoidable. So many variables, so little time to think.

That said, I think you did the right thing, Stef.

With the footsweep mention, maybe he had the idea that in the situation when 2 people are apporoaching each other and vacillate from side to side like a dance, he would incorpoirate a classic Tango move into the dance?
