WTB: long cage shimano rear derailleur.

My people,

I'm looking for a new one for my touring bike... good condition, xt or lx. Rapid-rise if possible. Looking to spend at 20-30 bux. What you got?

I've got an old XTR rapid rise some where.

I'm pretty sure it works.

You can have it.

Eric, i knew you'd pull through for me!

Do you think its less beat than the one I rode CTC twice on and have commuted daily with for 4 years?

If it's too dead for TheLivingTed, I would welcome it on my ride. That way the barcons would shift the same direction. That would be so cool... I've only read about such shiftiness.

(I beg forgiveness for coveting my neighbor's derailer.)

Hey Fungi,

you can have my old one then. I also have a mid cage RR Lx derailleur which I have no use for. (i need that long cage to wrap up my 53x34 spread!)

Rapid-rise with trigger shifters is kinda exasperating. rapid-rise with bar-ends however is totally dreamy shifting, you gotta try it.

Come to think of it, I think the XTR is a mid cage. If you still have my number, call or text me tonight to remind me to dig around for it.

TheLivingTed: (Hah, I do believe I win!)

Running my (1972) Sports Tourer with the original gearing at the moment, which has a 54x36 spread! (The lowest rear gear has that one inch tooth sprocket, and it works surprisingly well.) I swapped out the original Schwinn branded Shimano Crane, (1st Gen), for a recent bottom of the line Shimano Tourney with the silly huge red lower pulley wheel, and really long cage. Works really well, but here's the sign of my sickness; I dream of using the RR...

So, fortunately, I've other rear wheels sans "Alpine" gearing, including a 700C that I couple with a mid cage old Shimano 600. (Slant parallelogram makes a huge difference, so the 600 only works okay.)

I can and will be grateful to experience any RR with my (period correct) Suntour bar end shifters. I have read that is the perfect combination. Even beat, I should be able to fab the parts necessary to make it go. Thanks.
