Pgh Biz Times: Bike sharing demonstration set for Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh will get a test spin at a bike sharing program.

The cycling advocacy group Bike Pittsburgh has invited the bike-sharing company B-cycle to town next week. B-cycle is scheduled to demonstrate how its bike-sharing stations operate in Market Square on Thursday, June 9, during the Three Rivers Arts Festival. Then on Friday, B-cycle will give a presentation of how its entire program operates at an invitation-only lunch hosted by the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership.

A one-time skeptic, Scott Bricker, executive director of Bike Pittsburgh, sees bike sharing as a great way to make the city more bicycle friendly and as a strong way to introduce new riders to biking in town.

“Even for folks from the suburbs who have to commute in by car or bus, they don’t have to worry about bringing their bike into town,” he said. “It also opens up other parts of the city. You don’t have to be so dependent on your car.”
