Bikepool Extravaganza July 22

Bike commute with your neighbors

Bikepool [bahk-pool] – noun, verb A group of two or more people who bike to work or school together. Riding with others is a good option. It can be a very welcoming opportunity for new and/or inexperienced riders, and it creates a larger road presence for all riders.

Bikepools often begin informally, but what a lot of people don’t know is that CommuteINFO offers a bikepool matching service that helps people connect with an ongoing bikepool in their neighborhood. Program participants receive benefits like Emergency Ride Home and are added to a data base that counts bikepool participants. The more frequently bike commuters are counted the more we count when decision makers decide how public funds are spent for road improvements.

On Friday July 22nd ride leaders throughout the Pittsburgh region are stepping up to join fellow commuters to destinations around the city. BikePGH has identified nearly twenty leaders for the event who have offered to share their commute for the day and the list keeps growing . . . the more the merrier! See the map below to join a bike pool that departs from your neck of the woods. Use this form to let our ride leaders know to expect you. If you don’t see one that is convenient for you increase the reach and sign up today to lead a bikepool, or request one for the day.

In Downtown at Market Square and the Pitt parklet at Forbes and Bouquet from 7:30 am to 9:30 am we’ll greet all bikepools at welcome tents with goodies from our event sponsors NuGo and vitaminwater. All are welcome to join us and register on site for the ride match program.
