PG: Gear up for 10-day BikeFest

A VIP party catered by a star chef from an award-winning restaurant.

Live entertainment provided by Lungs Face Feet, “a Balkan-inspired horn-based dance band.”

Plenty of free indoor parking for two-wheelers and inexpensive outdoor parking for four-wheelers.

It is all part of the seventh annual BikeFest, a 10-day celebration of bicycling events in and around the city and county. It begins Friday evening at the Pittsburgh Opera, 2425 Liberty Ave., in the Strip District.

And it’s all arranged by Bike Pittsburgh, the organization dedicated to making Pittsburgh a bicycle commuter-friendly city.

Bike Pittsburgh provides a framework on its website for individuals, groups and companies to organize bike-themed events. Anyone is welcome to organize and submit an event.

More than 60 events for riders of all ages and abilities are scheduled. There will be organized rides in the mornings, afternoons, evenings and nights.

Yes, nights.
