Six Local Employers Earn National Bike Friendly Recognition

Pittsburgh has the second most entrants this round

The League of American Bicyclists recently announced a record 111 new Bicycle Friendly Businesses (BFB). Pittsburgh was only second to Boston as the city with the most. All six local businesses participated in BikePGH’s Bike Friendly Employer program in preparation for the League’s application.

East End Food Coop, Google Pittsburgh, Highmark Pittsburgh, Springboard Design, REI Pittsburgh, and the Sprout Fund join the ranks of Chatham University, OTB Bicycle Cafe, Urban Design Associates, and BikePGH as nationally recognized Bike Friendly Businesses. REI Pittsburgh earned the silver level recognition. All others have received bronze. When the League evaluates bike friendly communities the number of bike friendly businesses is highly regarded.

Government, individuals, and businesses all have a vital role in making a place bike friendly. BikePGH developed Bike Friendly Employer to provide local businesses the resources and information they need to not only be bike friendly, but help them understand the fundamental role advocacy plays in making Pittsburgh a better place to ride a bike.  Click here to learn more about Bike Friendly Employer .
