Pittsburgh Bike Challenge – Pre-season Push!

After a mere two weeks of pre-season competition, PGH is taking the nation by storm!

Just a couple of weeks after the National Bike Challenge was announced at the National Bike Summit, Pittsburgh so far has the highest number of participants of any city in the nation, 232 riders strong!  Thus far we’ve logged over 14,000 miles, saved nearly $6,000, climbed a mountain of hills, and the fun is just getting started!

When you join the National Bike Challenge you are asked for your zipcode so that you can be automatically included in the Pittsburgh Bike Challenge that is being coordinated by Bike Pittsburgh. Once you have registered you will then be able toggle back and forth between the local and national challenges to see how the competition is going at every level.

Yes this is a friendly competition (for most us) , BUT, lets not lose sight of the fact that this is something bigger! Each new person that joins the Pittsburgh challenge is one more voice to let it be known that you want to live in a bike friendly community.  At a time when bicycle and pedestrian funding is under fire we need to muster the loudest voice possible.

Joining the Pittsburgh Bike Challenge is bike advocacy! Tell your friends.  Fill your teams.  Get your workplaces involved.  Stop the next biker you see and ask them… have YOU taken on The Challenge?

If you have questions about the challenge and want to get your community and/or business involved come to one of our free info sessions:

Downtown Thursday, April 12. 5:00PM @ Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, RSVP here.

South Side Friday, April 13. 10:00AM @ Over the Bar Bicycle Cafe, RSVP here.

Move over Steelers and Penguins get ready to make room for a new Pittsburgh Champion!
