New Bike Corral in front of the Shadyside Mad Mex on Highland Ave

Pittsburgh’s Second Bike Corral in front of Mad Mex in Shadyside

Mad Mex on Highland Ave is the location of the newest Bike Corral, following Mayor’s the launch of the bike corral program in May in front Over the Bar Bicycle Cafe, in the South Side.

Sidewalk space is very limited on this tight stretch of businesses, so the corral will be able to service the whole block. In this situation, there weren’t actually any parking spaces removed.  The space that the corral occupies is actually a no parking zone due to a nearby fire hydrant, but it was often used by illegally parked vehicles. The corral both prevents illegal parking, and ensuring the proper space for the hydrant.

Come spring, the sidewalk diners will also be glad that bicycles are parking in the space in front of their tables instead of an exhaust spewing vehicle.
