Meet the Three Rivers Waterkeeper & Learn Their Secrets on this BikeFest Ride
There were once ten streams that flowed into the Allegheny River between the Point and the Highland Park Dam. Can you name them? Most have been lost to culverts, sewers, and neglect. Take a ride through the Lower Allegheny River Basin with the Three Rivers Waterkeeper this Sunday, August 11, to learn the history and importance of our city’s waterways.
This bicycle tour will begin at 10:00 am at the Coffee Tree along Penn Avenue in Bakery Square and will navigate the watersheds of Negley Run, Heth’s Run, and the streams below Lawrenceville before crossing the Allegheny River to discover Girty’s Run in Millvale.
A break with refreshments will be served at the Millvale Community Library.
The tour, being led by Three Rivers Waterkeeper Executive Director John Stephen, will stop at key sites along the way to reveal lost streams and to hear from guest speakers who will highlight the potential for restoration. It is anticipated the tour will last three hours. For more information check out the BikeFest Calendar of events.
