Share knowledge about the latest road and trail conditions with the BikePGH hive mind

This proverb is carved in a rock somewhere: in the winter, driving conditions =/= riding conditions.

Though our road crews work hard hours in the cold weather months, bike lanes aren’t first in line for winter maintenance. Road treatments like salt and gravel can themselves prove hazardous to cyclists, especially those riding with skinny tires. Trails are a secondary concern for maintenance… where they are a concern at all.

So when you are getting ready in the morning, you need something more reliable and local than looking out your window. Enter the Winter Riding Conditions thread: an up-to-date resource on road and trail conditions, sourced from the BikePGH community. It’s not a fancy mobile news van a la our local TV news outlets, but it can help you identify the best routes and decide how to gear up.

The best thing about this resource is that you can actively contribute to it. If you are a regular winter rider, get involved by sharing your own experiences and asking questions.
