Free, 10 Week Course Available to Residents

By Ngani Ndimbie, communications manager
The City of Pittsburgh is now accepting applications to join the Spring 2016 class of the Civic Leadership Academy. The Civic Leadership Academy (CLA) is a FREE ten week course for City residents that provides an inside look on how City departments and authorities operate. As part of the course you’ll hear from 12 City departments and authorities about their day-to-day operations, budgets, new initiatives, and upcoming projects. Participating residents will have the opportunity to ask questions, tour facilities, and network with fellow civic-minded residents. 30 students of all backgrounds, ages, and neighborhoods will form this year’s cohort.

If you’ve ever wondered what city departments are responsible for paving our roads, designing our streets, or deciding how much money we spend on bicycling and pedestrian projects; this course will explain all of that and more.

Dan, business programs manager here at BikePGH, is a Fall ’14 Civic Leadership Academy graduate and added, “it’s definitely something advocates would benefit from.”

APPLY FOR CIVIC LEADERSHIP ACADEMY TODAY: http://pittsburghpa.gov/servepgh/cla/application. Applications are due by Friday, March 4th.

PIC_2016_Spring2014CivicLeadershipHassettClasses begin Wednesday, March 30th. Students will be alerted of their acceptance by the third week of March. Classes are held every Wednesday for 10 weeks from 6-8:30 pm downtown as well as various locations throughout the city.
