Through Operation Illumination we want to make biking at night safer for everyone.

We’re delighted to announce we will be hosting two separate bike light giveaways tonight through our Operation Illumination program. The festivities will begin at 5:30pm at two top-secret locations around the city. We don’t want to reveal where we will be, because the purpose is for unlit cyclists to pass by as they normally would and for us to brighten their day by giving them lights.

No matter the size, we outfit all bikes with a new set of lights.

Through Operation Illumination our goal is to make biking at night safer for everyone. So far we’ve hosted one bike light giveaway this year. On that particular Saturday evening, we popped up in the highly-commuted area of Penn Avenue just before dusk until around 11PM.

We gave out over 37 sets of lights and even some helmets to unsuspecting unlit, unhelmeted people who passed by on their bikes. After installing each set of lights, we also gave out our newest Pittsburgh Bike Map, Urban Biking Companion Guide, an Operation Illumination Spoke Card with directions to change the batteries of the light set, and stickers!

We are very excited about this program and hope to see you tonight. Although if we do see you, unfortunately that means no lights for you.
