Learn the Ins & Outs of Local Government

The City of Pittsburgh is now accepting applications for the Civic Leadership Academy (CLA)! The CLA is a free, 10-week course that encourages more effective community and civic leadership by giving City residents an opportunity to learn about their local government. Applications are due 2/28. Classes are once a week on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. from 3/29-5/31.

If you’ve ever wondered what city departments are responsible for paving our roads, designing our streets, or deciding how much money we spend on bicycling and pedestrian projects; this course will explain all of that and more.

BikePGH’s Business Development Manger, Dan Yablonsky, graduated from the CLA in the Fall of 2013;

“The Mayor’s Civic Leadership Academy is a true tour d’local government! It gives essential insights that are invaluable to all current or aspiring community advocates. Each week CLA participants receive an up close and personal view into a new City Department.  They literally shake the hand of each Department Head, hear what they do, and learn about how they can partner to create real community change. PLUS, you get to know an inspiring group of classmates from all walks of life who care deeply about Pittsburgh. The Mayor’s Civic Leadership Academy is an A+ experience that I’d recommend to any (and every) Pittsburgher.”
