BikePGH Business Member Awards Night

BikePGH Business Members Rock

BikePGH is a small non-profit with a staff of 9, but the effects of our work is felt city-wide. We have some incredible momentum, and this would not be possible without the generous support and brave leadership of our business member community.

Since our start in 2002, BikePGH has been contributing to a culture of progress in Pittsburgh. Businesses have taken notice and want to stand behind our work. To date, over 100 businesses have signed on to our business member network.

Last Wednesday, BikePGH hosted our 3rd-annual Business Members Awards Night to gather our network of business members to reflect on an amazing 2017, and rally support for our vision in the year to come. With nearly 100 attendees packed into Wiggle Whiskey’s Tasting Room, BikePGH was able to accomplish just that and give awards to 5 of our Business Members that stood out in 2017.

Business member of the Year – Pitt Ohio

Pitt Ohio stepped up their game in 2017 with an increased Business Member level and a company-wide wellness initiative to encourage employee participation in UPMC Health Plan PedalPGH. While some might say bike advocacy and shipping is an unlikely pairing, BikePGH knows that Pitt Ohio’s commitment to safety is unmatched amongst their peers.

Small Business Champion – Grist House

Grist House exemplifies creative, grassroots advocacy. Using what they know best – hops, barley, and malt – Grist House brewed “Outspoken Ale”, the first-ever BikePGH- themed beer, and distributed it to bars throughout Pittsburgh with $1/pint donation coming back to fund BikePGH’s mission. Thank you for rolling your sleeves up and getting to work.

Industry Member of the Year – The Wheel Mill

The team at The Wheel Mill has been hard at work for the last 5 years creating PA’s only INDOOR mountain bike park. But in that time they have done so much more; from obstacle courses for kids at OpenStreetsPGH; to 1 on 1 classes that teach adults how to ride; The Wheel Mill has become the go-to place for people in Pittsburgh to ride their bike year round. Thank you. This award is long overdue.

Organization of the Year – YMCA

Through hosting Zumba, Kickboxing, and Spin Classes for thousands of participants, the YMCA brought unbridled levels of healthy fun to OpenStreetsPGH. The energy that the Y brought to OpenStreetsPGH transformed this initiative into one that speaks to people from all walks of life. BikePGH is proud of this partnership with the YMCA and the work we will accomplish together.

New Business Member of the Year

5801 has seen the growth of cycling in Pittsburgh increase first hand. Instead of joining an all too familiar chorus criticizing those without lights, 5801 stepped up to support Operation Illumination to help these riders. Just this fall at the first installment of the partnership we dozens more riders get lights and be seen. There is much
in store for 2018.
