2 mountain bikes stolen in Bloomfield

My girlfriend and I had two bikes stolen last night (Nov. 15) in Bloomfield. I had them locked to the bike rack on the back of my Jeep. We had parked on Liberty Ave at Cedarville St, had a drink at Pleasure Bar (we could see the Jeep and bikes across the street), then went to eat at Thai Cuisine. When we got done 30-45 minutes later, they were gone.

The bikes are both '09 Cannondale F7's. The Fem is white with teal decals and the Mens is gun metal gray. These should be sort of easy to spot as most people in town ride road/hybrid bikes and not mountain bikes.

If anyone happens to come across them, please contact me. (412) 638-7468

Reward offered.

Bummer. You had them locked to the rack? Did they take the whole rack or was it a cable lock that they just snipped.

Damn man, I thought that's what was going on. I saw bits and pieces of this, but not the actual theft or anything important.

I went for a ride last night sometime around 5:30 or so and passed that Jeep with fancy looking bikes on the rack and actually thought to myself, "Those are going to get stolen" as I rode by. I think this a lot when I see fancy bikes on racks in the city.

Later in the evening I was walking to Trams with a friend and saw you and your girlfriend standing by that same Jeep, on the phone looking all panicky. Not until after dinner on the way back when I saw you again with the Jeep did I put two and two together.

I live in the area, I'll keep an eye out.

rsprake - They cut our cable lock and took it along with the strap we had them secured with. The rack locks to the spare tire, so it was saved. I should have had a better lock on but figured that we would only be away for a few minutes. Guess that's all it takes. Now I know.

BradQ - Thanks for the extra set of eyes in the area.

I look forward to the day when cable locks are no longer produced.

Quick correction. The bikes are '10 not '09.

We have been trying to talk to the local businesses that have cameras outside (banks/church/drugstore). Does anyone have any suggestions for local pawn shops/bike shops/biker friendly businesses that we should stop by to check for information or notify that these bikes may be around?

Keep an eye on Craigslist, too.

I see stolen bikes all of the time in this area. There are a group of kids that always seem to have new mountain bikes, um, a new one every couple of days. They come around asking to get them fixed, flats or whatever.

I would suggest, riding around garfield, looking in the alleys and etc. I know that somewhere there is a house filled to the brim with stolen bikes somewhere in the area.

I have not seen these bikes, but, I will look for them.

The Sunoco at ELB and Highland is also a popular spot for trying to turn bikes over.
