A Sober, Data-Based Approach to Bicycle Advocacy

This is a pretty shocking statistic:

-- Watch out for guys behind the wheel: "over 90 percent of the drivers who kill cyclists in London…and New York City…are men."

Could it be that aggression, rather than inattentiveness, is actually the major cause of cyclist deaths? That's pretty scary.

I don't think it's aggression, I think it's being visually oriented and prone to distraction in a dynamic visual field.

(Dynamic visual field is the best phrase I could come up with for the experience of riding around and encountering an outdoor yoga class on a nice spring day... )

But seriously, I don't think it's aggression. I think it's a disposition to visual acquisition/categorization/response-appreciation in the lizard brain, which Way Back When was important to survival (of the species if not the induhvidual) but is counter-productive in most modern situations.

This is why BryBot needs to automate the drivers (ie me) out of cars.

and truly, no offense intended. Just speaking for my own fetish. I get distracted quite often and I really appreciate that which distracts me. I am all about that Lizard Brain thing.

What were we talking about?

I seriously think it's aggression.

For example I don't think very many drunk drivers are actually too impaired to drive: they just drive like adam's apples and endanger the people around them.
