Allegheny airport to McKeesport route question

I need to bike from the Allegheny County airport to the McKeesport trailhead of the GAP. Is the following route a good choice? http://tinyurl.com/8ekefu4

On satellite view the road looks pretty un-bike-friendly. Is there enough of a shoulder for a skinny biker? I'm dropping a rental car off at the airport, getting my bike out of the car, and then riding the GAP to Washington, DC Reagan National Airport, where my car will be waiting for me in long-term parking.

I actually live less than .5 mile from the airport. That little road your going down is virtually empty. It's not in the best of conditions (pot holes and cracks) but its all downhill till the intersection at the bottom. So for someone new to the place that is probably the best way to go.

Plow13, thanks. So if you were riding from the airport to the GAP trailhead in McKeesport, would you take the route shown at that link? I just used Google Map directions optimized for bike travel, and let the computer pick the route. Think it's the best way to ride to the GAP trailhead? I'm surprised to hear the road isn't heavily traveled. It looked like it is a big commercial strip with lots of big box stores and fast food and that type of thing.

(just checking: do you have the right airport? Pittsburgh International is on the other side of the county--I'd forgotten County even had rental car offices...)

Lebanon Church is mostly a four-lane, high-speed road (35mph limit, mostly driven at 50+), but you won't be on it long, and I'm afraid if you're really starting at AGC, you don't have much choice.

Buffalo buffalo, I am happy to report that I can rent an Enterprise car at Reagan National airport in DC, drive my bike in the car to Allegheny County airport, drop the rental car off at the Enterprise office at the county airport (not Pittsburgh International -- but the little county airport in West Mifflin), and then bike to the GAP trailhead. I'll then bike back to Washington, DC, get my own car out of the long-term parking lot, and drive home for a good shower.

Buffalo Buffalo's question is quite helpful. There's been a few times I've encountered people at the West Mifflin/Allegheny airport who should have been at that other one. Good question!
