APRIL PITTSBURGH BIKE PARTY RIDE!!!!!!

Friday April 19th. TIME CHANGE: Now that the sun is setting later, we're meeting at Dippy at *6pm* and leaving at 6:30 to give everyone a bit more time to get there after work. A Bike Party is a welcoming, family-friendly, all-inclusive, FREE event consisting of a leisurely-paced bicycle ride (complete with music and mechanical support) and ending with a post-ride party. The group pedals through the city at a slow, welcoming pace appropriate for riders of all ages and capabilities. You get a chance to make new friends, learn new routes, and have fun on your bike! Bring Helmets and lights. And a bike to put those lights on. And all your friends!

Curious. Is this the Flock? Why isn't that mentioned? To me the connotation of "Flock" are much better than those of "Party."

What time do these usually end? I've been dying to come to one but I have a dog situation (have to let the puppies out after work).

Usually it's a little bit over one hour and you don't have to stay at after party. :) So, I would say if we start by 6:30 pm then by 7:45-8:00pm you should be good go to.

I didn't make January, but December, February, and March were all about 1:20 according to my endomondo record.

overall ride duration depends on a couple of factors: - number of lights caught vs lights in the group favor - the amount the group is split - who's pulling the trailer - amount of vehicle traffic enoucntered but on average its around a 90 min ride. (120 if marv is toting the trailer.)

I'm about 50/50 on making it to the end of any ride that ends on the SSide, more like 1 in 10 if it's dark, raining, or late. Fridays are a little easier for me, but I still like to catch the 7:50 bus out of downtown. Only one of them an hour. Dogs aside, I suspect you would have much the same issue.

April 19 has been claimed as "Bicycle day" in honor of Dr Albert Hofmann's famous bicycle ride.

At this point, they're calling for rain in the middle of the day, tapering off toward night. If history is any guide, I'd watch the radar, because typically that means we get a 3pm thunderstorm that then clears out, making for a nice evening of riding, though it might be on wet streets. But that's 60 hours into the future at this writing.

I didn't do enough figuring out of work/schedule/dog logistics, so maybe next time. I do have someone who can come let my dogs out for me, but that takes more than 2 days notice. As for the weather forecast, I think we'd all be better off rolling dice. It's anyone's guess lately.

I'm trying to pimp your event to my colleagues. Can someone update your homepage to reflect this week's ride?

Looking at the weather numbers, the chance of rain decreases steadily all afternoon. Thunder should be done by 4. Radar at 1:30 shows a mean-ass storm front that's about 2 hours out, but not much behind it. Gonna be breezy, though. So yeah, it looks rotten now, and will stay rotten through the afternoon, but after 6 might not be too bad. Stay tuned. Radar link Hour-by-hour forecast

Aw man, @JaySherman5000, I dropped the ball on updating the website for this ride. My fault. I was all distracted with a couple of busy workweeks and CTC prep. I wish I had seen that post earlier — somebody yell at me if I forget to do that next time
2013-04-21 14:25:20
Also, of course, I am very sad that I missed the ride on Friday — can't wait to ride with you all next month
