Here are my thoughts on this. Ever since my colleagues and I's service in South Africa 20 years ago, it struck me that while South Africa had the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and fostered a national dialogue on what apartheid did to the people of South Africa, we have never had a similar national dialogue here (yes, there have been prior attempts). I believe there is a political window of opportunity here, at this moment. We're discussing housing disparities, policing disparities, educational disparities, and healthcare disparities that are affecting the Black community. I've never seen what appears to be the current political will to address the problem of systemic racism before. I need your help. If we can get people to disseminate this to our networks, amplify it, and get the idea out there, I can approach my Senators and Congresswoman about writing legislation. If my reps (who I believe would be approachable and open to this) do this, people can do the same with the reps in their own states. My colleague is already doing this in Maryland, if you would like to contact your own representatives, I would strongly support that. Maybe we can even make this a campaign issue for Biden. The first step is signing, the second...spreading and explaining to your networks why a US Truth and Reconciliation Commission #USTRC is a good idea, and getting it in front of influencers so it takes off. We can get the idea of #USTRC into the public sphere, and change public policy. It starts with us, though. I've been carrying this idea around with me for 2 decades.
