BB5/BB7s?

Parktool has a video on how to set it up. They're pretty annoying to get just right.

Annoying, but predictable in all weather conditions.

Bicycle brakes generally work pretty badly, but discs work surprisingly well.

@reddan, Yes the Hammertruck.

Finally pulled it out of it's box.

I was going to do a trip to DC this spring/summer, but my father, who lives there, is adament about not wanting me to do it. He says that it worries him a lot, so I might skip it this year. (And do other foolish,dangerous things that he needn't know about).

Not sure of the exact brake model number. I'm guessing, from the comments here, that it makes a difference?

The BB7s pop out and are a PIA to get back in.

BB7's have pad adjustments on both sides, BB5 has it only on one side

BB7's are pretty simple to set up well if you understand the basics of how they work.

The BB5s are hard to set up without some rubbing, best to do what you can and get over a bit of random pad to rotor contact, which probably has no negative effect on your ride.

My trick on getting my bb7's adjusted was that I shoved an index card (actually a torn piece of a PBR case) in one side between the brake pad and rotor while I squeezed the brake lever and tightened the mounting bracket screws on the side that tended to lightly rub the rotors every time I tried to center it. Then removed the 'index card' and the brakes were better centered without scraping the rotors. Seemed to work for me.

Afterward, I adjusted the pad adjustment and cable tension for a better fit (and repeated the process at least once)

The one thing I know, Mick - don't apply the brakes when there isn't a disc in place to be squeezed by the pads - not a good outcome.
