Frame Saver

Does anyone know where I can find this in Pittsburgh? I found it a few places online, but they want to charge as much as the can costs over again for shipping.

if they don't have it in stock pretty much any decent bike shop can order it for you.

This is just a small can of rust inhibitor. You should be able to buy something similar at an auto parts store.

I've been using WD-40, and it works well. Pulling the BB. stem, and seat post and accessing through all the braze/air holes with the tiny red tube, then allowing it to dry for a few days has proved most efficacious. I've even inverted the bike without pulling the (non-cartridge) BB and managed to avoid contaminating any lubrication with the stuff. Also been using it on polished old previously chromed db spokes which are susceptible to rust. Letting WD40 "dry" for a few days seems to be the key. Nice to have a purpose for the blue can o' cr*p?

Coating persists about two years or so, though of course, your mileage may vary.

P.S. I seal up the air vent holes in the frame after treatment.

There are probably small but significant differences between different rust inhibitors. I can imagine that, say Boeshield is 20% better than WD-40. Or, FrameSaver is three times as good as linseed oil. I'm making this up. But any rust inhibitor is nine billion percent better than none.
