Gabba Gabba Hey! Ramones Ride this Friday, April 15th

This Friday, April 15th, will mark ten years since lymphoma took the life of one of the greatest icons of American music, Jeffry Ross Hyman, more popularly known as Joey Ramone.

I would like to commemorate the life and music of Joey with a memorial ride this Friday, April 15th meeting at 6 pm (leaving at 6:30 pm), starting at Dippy. Dress in your Ramones tee shirt, leather jacket, jeans, and Chuck Taylors if you've got em. I'm hoping to have a bike-based stereo for the event, and we will take a fairly mellow-paced ride through the flatter areas of the city.

Gabba Gabba Hey

Awesome. IN. (Dback, ride to/from is hereby offered... in fact I extend it to anybody in PH/Plum, since there are now a few of us here...)

The old adage is that if you wore something once, you should never wear it again, even if it seems to come back in fashion. I hope to make this ride, but I'll leave the costuming to others. I've been there and done that....!

Chances are 50/50 that I'll be there... it depends on energy levels, work schedules, traffic etc.

I got to see them twice, once in '91 (which IIRC was the original lineup) and once in '93 (@ CMU for the princely sum of $1). Got hurt both times: in '91 took a steel-toe boot to the bridge of my nose and in '93 had a pit suddenly open up around me and was limping for a week.

Unfortunately, I'll be in my commuting gear which means spandex. But I'll try to make it spandex w/ attitude. [You know if anyone were to make chuck taylor looking booties, I'd be in the market...]

they only had the original lineup until 1978; 1991 would have been the final lineup of joey, johnny, marky, and cj... yes i am a geek...

Huh, the games memory plays... I could I have sworn I saw them once w/ CJ and once without.

Do you have a route and time frame in mind? It's looking more probable that I'll make it (right this minute, subject to change).

Need to know what all I should bring in terms of lights, snacks, etc.

i was thinking up through shadyside to bloomfield, down through lawrenceville, the strip, south side, back to oakland through panther hollow. i guess that's about 2-3 hours there.

You should stop at site of the Electric Banana and sing "I wanna be sedated". They played there, march 7, 1979. I don't specifically remember if I went, but that doesn't mean I didn't.

9. I don't specifically remember if I went, but that doesn't mean I didn't.

Now THAT is the sign of a good show! :)

Assuming I can kick this headache, I'll see you all at 6:00.

I'm sad say I'm out. "full and interesting life" grumble grumble. I will sing Ramones songs at the top of my lungs next time I'm on a bike, in honor of Joey.

Ironically, due to my decision to ride into town today, I can't ride with since I will need to head out to the West pretty early, but maybe I'll stop by the start to say Gabba hey.
