Get anything cool for Christma?

My wonderful girlfriend got me a Ritchey carbon fiber fork for my cyclocross bike, a pair of DZR/Mission Workshop shoes, a nice Leatherman, and some wool socks.

What did you get?

got some cool stuff from secret santas at work, my mom got me gift cards for clothes, my step-dad got me a jar of peanuts with a 50 inside (he's not very creative, haha), and my friend's mom gave me a cast-iron pan, which I'm really excited about.

I gave abundant hints that I need help paying tuition, but I got a little RC helicopter, socks, and a "Smartass University" t-shirt. Through the Reddit secret santa, I got a vegetarian cookbook. We have a secret santa at work later this week, so more to follow. Come onnnnnnn tuition money.

Last year my family got me a woolistic Merckx replica Molteni jersey, the coolest thing I could possibly get. I couldn't think of anything to top that, so this year I didn't even ask.

Though now it occurs to me that I need some Dromarti shoes, but I will have to wait until the dollar recovers.

I got 15-20 gallons of shit erupting from my basement toilet.

I bought myself a new Giro Atmos helmet on Thursday.

A ton of candy, one of those steelers themed popcorn tins with caramel, cheese, and butter flavored popcorns separated by a little cardboard thingie, a bunch of socks, and a candle I will probably never burn.

dbacklover - What sort of brewing kit did you get? Besides biking, brewing is probably my favorite hobby.

My AWESOME girlfriend got me a Contour HD helmet cam, Dr. Martens boots, and tons of little things for craft shows, etc..

Family got me a Flip video camera, grinder, woodburning kit with three pens, dvd's, clothes, etc....

The best gift I got was the time spent together and the love of my family!

yeah, the best part was definitely being home. Seeing my neices, nephew, and little cousins.

ALSO, walking through town and seeing all the familiar places..

I used to think that was a hill. If you look closely, it's just slightly inclined.

heading back to pittsburgh soon, can't say I'm not bummed out about it.

I got to watch my son fly a kite for his first time. 23 degrees, windy, and spitting snow, and he was still good for 20 minutes of high-flyin' excitement.

[Edited to add:]Oh, and a used 400-lb industrial drill press that I couldn't haul home in my car. Thanks, Dad ;-)

BB&B gift cards (might go spend some today), Tom's wrap boots, set of 10 mugs (I like tea), pressure cooker cook book, + miscellany. Early (and bike related) gifts of painfully yellow rainproof jacket and thin gloves mentioned on previous threads.

I got hubby icebreaker long-undies (plus a set for me too - fabulous!), he also got tix to opera and symphony, and a soymilk maker that does nut(almond, cashew)/grain(rice, oat)/other bean 'milks' too. I've been playing with that one too much, every pitcher and mason jar in the house is full of a variety non-dairy milks, to the point that we can't fit anything else in the fridge. Smoothies galore....

Nada, nothing. Got to work a half day on my regular day off so my assistant could be with family. It was

a good day.

dbacklover, shoot me an email (hidden.variable/gmail) if you want any tips. i love talking about beer and brewing.

also: best online homebrewing resource: www.howtobrew.com . it's a book that was transcribed to crappy 90s html pages, and it's basically the homebrew bible. it gives just the right amount of detail for every step of the process and provides a great starting point for breaking off on your own and experimenting.

@helen s: nice of you to cover for a co-worker. I've had many "nada" xmases. Its one of my favorite days to walk around the city...almost no one on the streets. very peaceful.

ha ha, i recently got that book as well, for almost that cheap. he's pretty wrong about a lot of things if i recall.

more like "the complete book of being a bitter old man whose sport passed him by"

Dave - homemade pickles are awesome :D Family recipe or a book or do you know? Pickling is on my list of things to play at this year.

What errors are there in Lemond's book? It holds up pretty well as I recall.

Also, yeah, he does come off as a crank. On the flip side he came back right as EPO took off. Suddenly a Spaniard bigger than Fabian Cancellara can climb?

mayhew
2010-12-30 15:30:10

I think history will play out that Lemond was a cranky guy passed up by the sport... and that he was right and they've all been on drugs since his time in the peloton.

imakwik1

I agree with Brad (and Lemond). Being cranky doesn't preclude be correct.

And from what I've heard from people who know a lot more about training than me, Lemond's book is still a great place to start.

@ejwme

My uncle had some extra crops, so he just pickled stuff with some recipe of the internet. Nothing family or secret, just delicious.

I never said he was wrong. His facts/opinions are pretty solid. His approach to the topic just sucks all kinds of ass.

I got a Basil shopper bag so I can finally ditch the milk crate (though I will miss it...) and $50 at Trek, which will probably go toward a better front light.

Dremel trio, shirts, cast iron pan.

nick/salty - I'm curious about those dzrs as well. I'd switch to eggbeaters in the future if the shoes dont suck.
