Good Friday Fish Fry Ride

Hey guys, I'm planning on taking a ride with @marko on friday (as long as the weather is dry) Think of it as a daytime flock ride. Meet at Dippy at 12:30 Leave at 1:00 the end of the ride will be Holy Angels Church (408 baldwin road) for what is a killer fish fry. The route will be a laid back flock like ride. Im thinking something like this months ride (oakland, bloomfield, strip, town, southside, southside trail to the church. Everyone is welcome. Bring money for food

FYI: the church is only a few level blocks off the trail by the Glenwood bridge. they have both baked and fried fish, soup & a decent dessert table. Fish dinner (fish sandwich, fries, slaw) is $8 The sandwich is big and I think a good value. They also get crazy crowded, but that is half the fun of going there.

Just getting the bike ready for the ride today. wit only a tiny 20% chance of rain and temps reaching almost 50 I think it is going to be a great day for a ride.

I'll be working. Weather is nice outside, though! I'll prolly try and go on a bike ride after work instead.

that was a good day for a ride, after lunch a few of us took a slow meandering pace down the trail to mckeesport and back, (i forgot how fulling those fish sammich dinners are. next time im skipping the fries.) but was a good 25 mile calorie burner for sure.

Great ride, even if we didnt see any eagles. I was surprised at just how many people we ran into that we knew. (That I knew)

If someone has one better than St. Maximilian Kolbe, West Homestead, I haven't eaten there.

Good Friday is March 25th this year, so the 5th annual bike ride to eat great fried fish will be then. We moved the start location to OTB in SouthSide a few years ago so let's meet up there around Noon for a beverage with wheels on the ground at 1pm. Notes: - The church is only about four flat miles from OTB via the SouthSide trail with less than half a mile of on street riding needed. The pace will be slow and conversational. -They have both baked and fried fish, soup & a decent dessert table. The sandwich is big and I think a good value. You will be full for $10 or less. -Seating is family style at long tables and even though the hall can get rather crowded, we have had success sitting mostly together since we split the lunch/dinner crowd. -The church doesn't have bike racks (boo... ) but there is an iron fence that they don't seem to mind us locking to. -If the weather is nice we usually add a bonus post-eats slow ride along the river to work off some of our meal.

I can't go at lunch. Anyone interested in finding an evening gathering?

I just came here to coordinate with evening plans - at 5 pm on March 25, there is the Susan Hicks memorial ride. Perhaps more important than a sandwich? Sorry to come stomping on your (otherwise excellent) idea durishange, but I'm hoping you agree with me on priorities. I, for one, am open to the idea of a second fish sandwich if there is time after the memorial ride.

Um, unless it takes you four hours to eat your sammich there really shouldn't be a problem... The fish ride is at 1pm and Susan's ride is at 5pm. Since we normally try to have a short social ride after our fish consumption anyhow, I'm hopping that most folks will want to head over to Oakland to participate in this. I know that's what I'm planning on doing. ETA: it's about 6 miles (~30 minutes) from the church to Oakland via the SouthSide trail, HMB, Panther hollow.

for those looking for an evening fish fry that won't conflict with the Susan Hicks ride, this event is coming up the following week: "Keep Pittsburgh Fishy: Fry Another Day" https://www.facebook.com/events/490993804420460/ "Keep Pittsburgh Fishy is an annual secular fish fry benefiting local equality-supporting organizations.…This year, our proceeds benefit Dreams of Hope, a local Pgh queer youth arts programming non-profit. And we're featuring side dishes provided by local restaurants APTEKA and The VANDAL!" 4/1, 5--9:30pm, Spirit Lounge, 51st Street, Lawrenceville.

I wasn't trying for humor. The top of the thread -plus the first FB link - showed what I posted above. Only now have I realized that post was from 2013 and good knows when the FB page was put up. Maybe next year start a brand new thread to avoid confusion? I'll be at Over the Bar, southside, more or less at noon.

You should hang out at Dippy, Mick. Just in case there are any other confused stragglers. ;-)
