they have a bunch of nice racks and BikePGH is a dealer as well.
Does anyone have any advice or suggestions for buying and installing a bike rack outdoors?
It would be used for an over/under duplex on a busy road. For the first floor, bikes can be easily brought inside, but there's quite a few steps and a tiny porch up to the second floor, making indoor storage of bikes difficult. There are no poles, railings, or otherwise suitable places to U-lock a bike on the property, and the backyard is only accessible through a narrow passageway that most bikes don't fit through.
This would be placed on an existing concrete slab (so surface-mounted), I imagine either on the front porch (protection from elements but cramped) or to the side of the building (exposed but more space). Installation seems pretty straightforward with access to a hardware store and the proper equipment/knowledgeable persons.
Capacity would be 1-4 bikes, tending towards the lower end of that range.
I found several models well under $100, for example: http://www.belson.com/fsbr.htm.
Thanks in advance!

Erok, do you know the legal precedent for installing racks on a sidewalk in front of my house? The people next door are asshats and they cut down the pole I locked on only to spite me so I'd like to return the favor by putting an obnoxious neon pink rack right outside
well, you can do whatever you want to your private property.
if it's in the public thru way, you're supposed to fill out a $25 permit. currently, the city has no clue where that permit is, and are supposedly writing it and putting it on their permits site. should be there within 6-10 years, so keep checking back.
How does that work with the PGH bike racks that are all over the place?
But the sidewalk isn't private property, is it?
It would be more fun to have one of those three-rivers racks on the sidewalk outside my house...
Also, found this: http://www.city.pittsburgh.pa.us/cp/assets/07_Bicycle_Parking_Policy_Statement.pdf
I believe it is private property, but also a public through-way, which means you have to abide by certain restrictions on what you can do to them.
Not posi though

that was a special program that the city helped set up to waive those fees and provide the racks for free.i believe that all of the 200 racks have been claimed.
