is this bike worth the price? (craigslist))

my raleigh record ace from the 80's would be much better suited to a beater, not a triathlon.

Eh. It's alright, but hardly a smokin' deal on a 6 year old bike that retailed for $700.

For about the same price you can get a bike from bikesdirect.com.

Don't you have to assemble the bikes from Bikes Direct?

You have to assemble any bike you buy online.

Not recommended for those who don't know what they're getting into.

although i'm new(er) to cycling, ive build and stripped down quite a few bikes so that doesnt worry me. i figure any bike you get on the internet you'd need to tweak to get to your liking anyway, unless you can find and fit the exact same make/model/size/setup in a LBS?

and although its not the biggest accomplishment, rode back up neville without having to gear all the way down today. (first time this season, yeah i know i'm slacking).

most times i find it's easier to actually gear UP and push neville as fast as i can. it goes so quickly that you barely realize you're suffering. also, it's always very near to the end of my ride, so i don't have to save up for anything more, so why not?
