Jumping on Board the Rash of New Gravatars

I'm jumping on the new gravatar bandwagon. I've been using my glowing orange swirl for too long now. Plus, I like how the new blue eye coordinates with the new bike-pgh layout. Cool to see so many new ones.

Sigh. I give up. How, exactly do you add one? I've gone to "your account", hit "edit" and found no option to change the image. Is this an iPad issue? Do I need to be on the desktop to do this?

I use gravatar.com, so I just login there and replace my image. I've long forgotten how I connected the accounts years ago. Maybe I'll check around, see if I can find out how it's done. Anyone else have a suggestion?

@srpit - Maybe you should go to gravatar.com, start an account using the same email address as the one you use for bike-pgh - I'm betting it'll connect the account and image automatically.

thats what i did for mine, it can take a day for the gravatar system to sync up with these boards though. set it up & give it time to synch up.

I have considered changing my gravatar also, It's the same on I use for Facebook, twitter, instagram, and my blog. It's getting old and boring. But when you see it you know it's me when friending me on social media.

No Mr. Marv, don't change. Yours is great and cannot be improved upon.

@edmonds59 thanks I will keep it the same, Goku on a bike is epic.

I am having a hard time conceiving of an improvement to mine. The pic was taken in Sept 2009 by my son when I learned I was nominated for an environmental award. It shows my two passions as well as a recognizable view of my face, which has proven quite helpful many times. I use it everywhere: LinkedIn, Facebook (occasionally), Twitter, MySpace (which was still a thing in 2009), Google+ and others.

hahaha I totally found Stu based on his gravatar! On a similar note, I changed my name because I got tired of introducing myself as "headloss." @mr.marv, yeah, can't change Goku! You can change the background, but Goku on bike must stay! :)

Ok, Goku stays. But should I change mr marvelous to my real name? Or is that exclusive to my social media friends.

Real name is irrelevant. If it really matters that we know a real-life name or any other personal info, that's what PM is for. In your case, we can determine gender, but even that's irrelevant. In fact, in many other cases, we've conversed extensively with a new person without needing to know gender.

My gravatar is connected to a wordpress account that I created 4 years ago but never used.

Yeah, Gravatar is linked to Wordpress, but when I updated mine recently I noticed that you can add email addresses to your account on Gravatar and assign a different image to each one. Just keep in mind that it can appear on various *other* wordpress sites if you log in and comment on them. I don't know if rice rocket is following this thread, but I like his new icon, too.

My old one was too low res for the new enlarged avatars, so I just used something I had lying about

I need to set up an avatar. Is there anyone here who could take a pic on me on my bike and make me look dashing and handsome? (uhhh ... not asking for much, am i?)

@Edmunds Wow! Great pic! Did you take it? I feel like sending it to both my "Must-wear-spandex-to-ride" friends and my "can't-ride-in-my work-clothes" friends. That suit now has moth holes and I have to retire it - but every single time I've worn it, I've ridden my bike somehwere. Now how can I make it my gavatar?

I remember that ride. A fond memory, but alas, not for a Gravatar. There were six of us guys so attired, as I recall. btw, same get-up I had on for the October Costume Flock ride. Minus the sweater.

Was from the bridesmaid dress ride, on the Bike Pgh! flickr group, appears to be have been taken by Rob De La Cretaz. Click on the image, it should take you to the flickr group (you may have to sign in), download it, then upload it to https://en.gravatar.com/ , follow the directions. Slice of cake!

I just changed my gravatar. It should sync up in a few. Let me know what you all think. Can you tell the difference?

^ it looks more 3 dimensional vs flat art. Something that is the same as the last icon, is that it has a thin line running from the top to bottom on the right side of the image.

I don't know why they both have the flat line on them. The last on was a drawing the new on is an actual picture of a statue.

I finally had an idea for a new grav that might suffice if I ever decide to change. Whaddya think Mr. Marv?

@edmonds59 I love it! There are lots of anime + bike combinations to choose from. I chose Goku on a bike because he is the most recognized in the US. I didn't think anyone would understand my anime reference.
