Millvale Restaurant ? ?

I'm seeing a show at Mr Small's tonight with some folks. We want to do dinner first. Tossing out some money is an OK option.

I'll be biking and they won't, so it's up to me to find a place - Shadyside would be good for them, but not me, for instance.

Is there any good restaurant in Millvale?

How about Bulter Street close to 40th street?

Is there a good way to get from town to Millvale? The bike map says "Danger!"

I wish I had posted this two days ago.

Thanks in advance!

Mick

hmm, I hesitate to make this suggestion because it isn't the best for groups nor if you are short on time, but The Round Corner Cantina has some of the best fricking tacos, salsa, guac, chips, etc I have ever had in my life. Seating is first come first serve. Margaritas are supposed to be fab, also.

oh, sorry, it is at Butler and 38th. Piccolo Forno across the street is also supposed to be good Eyetalian.

oh, and crossing the 40th st bridge isn't absolutely terrible. There is about a 300 yard stretch you have to ride on a fast section of E. Ohio but I've done it many times.

Thanks, dmtroyer.

I'm not familiar with that stretch, but I once went the other direction on 28 once and it was hellish. IIRC, there were cars doing 80 in 25 mph zone.

I'll put on an extra blinky and wear a reflective vest. In any case, 300 yards I can deal with.

(I'm still open to any other restaurant suggestions)

Tamari, which is a couple of blocks from Dozen is really good. Piccolo Forno is supposed to be really good too.

From Downtown to Millvale --- just cross one of the bridges ( FT D's my favorite ) and pick up the north shore trail. It goes all the way up to MR. Smalls in Millvale. It turns kind of crummy ( think like a rural dirt road out in the sticks someplace) from the 31st bridge to the 40th street bridge, but its all frozen hard today so its pretty much like riding on a road. It looks like somebody might attack you or something there but there's never been any problems that I've heard off esp on a cold day like today.

Another option avoiding the freeway-flavored bit of Ohio St. is to take the 40SB (or its sidewalk, though beware glass) then cross over Rt. 28 to the sidewalk which devolves into a goat path then meets stairs taking you to Maryland Ave. in Millvale. I found that just fine my first time bumbling to Mr. Small's.

Town to Millvale, you can deal with the highway; it's downhill. Blinkies are essential.

Millvale to town, DEFINITELY use Maryland and the goat path. My preference is to carry the bike over the curb very near the fence and then ride down the steep part of the path (it's only 25 to 30 feet long). Much of it from there is a paved sidewalk.

Look for the pedestrian crossing button and expect to wait a while, but once you get the light it isn't too bad to cross 28 there.

I would take the path from town to Milvile actually and the highway from Milville to town. The concert at Mr. Smalls will be over at 11-12 and it's open roads on that stretch at that time i have found in the past.

Thanks!

Dinner bombed out. Partly people conflicted about what they want to eat. (Call at 3:30 "japanese is really healthy, lets eat there!" Same person calls at 3:40 "Ew, they have sushi I don't wanna eat there.")

But basically, Friday afternoon is a bit late sto start getting recommendations for organzing a group dinner for Friday night.

I saw dmtroyer's review of Round Corner - made me laugh.

I rode through town then 7th street bridge and the trail to get out there.

I road out of my way to go over Ft D on the way back - figure if I ask for advice, I really should follow some of it. I haven't been over the Ft D on bike - ever I think. Took a while because I didn't knwo the way and I tried unsuccesfully to find the mon river wharf ride.

When I was 16, there were guys jumping off the bridge ("bridge to nowhere" in those days) and , being 16, it seemed like a good idea, so I've always been fond of that bridge. (Um...It wasn't good idea. Ok?)

Strikes me as a great way to get from North nto South side, but other than that, I think I prefer the 3 sisters. (6,7, 9th)

Thanks again everyone for the help!
