see? we are getting to be more like sf every day!
but seriously people, if a phone call is that important, GET OFF AND WALK YOUR BIKE!!!!!
So, the young mother struck by the car in Mt. Lebanon while jogging with her young children in a stroller has died, according to the evening news. The 20 year old driver - who was named in the media - is to be charged with driving under the influence. DUI/OWI with fatal injury will carry a hefty punishment.
The evening news also carried the story of a young woman cyclist in Friendship who was hit by a car sometime today - Amber at Friendship, as I recall. Cyclist was thrown from bike, suffered contusions to the head, but refused to press charges. Mitigating factor? CYCLIST WAS ON HER CELL PHONE.
The roads out there are dangerous. Please don't do anything to make them even more so. Please?

What are the board's feelings on biking while using a bluetooth earpiece?
Why would you want to talk on the phone while riding? I think the wind noise alone is enough for me not to want to do it--not to mention, it's kind of stupid.
Whilst riding home through the Schenley park golf course last night I passed a kid (college age) with his helmet hanging from the handlebars, talking on his phone, and swerving a lot with an arc of around 5 feet. As I passed (widely) I turned and said "You are going to crash, and without your helmet on."
He responded "Yeah, I'm an idiot that way."
you should have offered to pay for him to get a vasectomy.
I was headed downtown on ARB, just passed HPB overpass, and a man and woman, no helmets, were biking on the wrong side of the road, outbound. I said as much as I passed them, the guy said "yeah, we know, thanks." like I'd pointed out that his shirt was missing a button. They kept going. I didn't look back to see where they ended up, but didn't hear screeching or thudding.
swalfoot - the roads aren't dangerous, it's the people on them.
asobi - I think it's up to you. personally, I can't chew gum and walk at the same time, I have to work really hard to signal and turn at the same time, so I'd never bluetooth it. but at least it's not taking up your attention AND your hand.
After the ELB events, I would like a bluetooth headset with a one-button 911 function.
