new bike bridge/tunnel in Mountain View, CA

I missed the opening ceremony on Tuesday but I did ride across this a couple times. Right now the trail ends right after the tunnel but I think they're planning to extend it. It's a pretty impressive bridge - 101 is 8 or 10 lanes at that point.

From another article in Aug 2010 this was <2 years from approval to completion and cost $9M.

That's a nice facility. At 9 m I think they got a pretty good deal. For goodness sake there are shitty McMansions around here that people pay 3+ m for.

Heh... not by much.

That's one of the new 2012 gbikes, btw. They're pretty nice, although like the guy in the pic I was a bit cramped. My loaner this time was a trek 7200, pretty decent ride.

That bridge lets me bypass the least favorite part of my commute out there, where the highway ramp comes up on the right of the bike lane and becomes a right turn lane which forces some nasty car/bike merging.

Mt. View is more like a big suburb than a city but they do have a lot of bike lanes - albeit mostly shared bike/park lanes like parts of Beechwood. Still, they're a bronze BFC like Pittsburgh, and Palo Alto next door is gold.
