According to the Intertubes: Detroit, Michigan, circa 1912. "Metzger bicycle shop. Detroit City Gas Co." This photo of a cycle (and phonograph) shop was taken to show off the gaslight fixtures. 8x10 glass negative, Detroit Publishing Company. Here's the full size photo you can really see the details: http://www.shorpy.com/node/9414?size=_original Plus other links: http://www.m-bike.org/blog/2010/01/18/bike-shop-owner-started-the-1st-detroit-auto-show/ http://www.m-bike.org/blog/2010/12/11/metzger-bicycle-shop-in-1912/

If you look closely at the front window, there is a sign that says Exelsiors *something* and Cycles. A clue?

Excelsior Autocycle probably. Related to Schwinn bikes back then. There are a few of them on the left side of the picture on the floor, followed by some Indians. Any of those motorcycles are probably worth as much as the building that they are sitting in today, and not just because the building is in Detroit.
