It's worse than that. 14% of that tax is specifically earmarked for building the Mon-Fayette project. It's the very hope that they will get that cap removed that is allowing the Turnpike Commission to go forward with the Southern Beltway project from the airport to I-79.
proposed removal of wholesale gas tax cap
pg article here. to sum it up, corbett is going to propose removing the tax cap on wholesale gasoline, which is currently set at $1.25 per gallon. this would increase the tax paid by wholesalers by 28.5 cents per gallon.
seems like a good start. now, all we have to do is eliminate the clause in the constitution that requires fuel tax funds to be used solely for road and bridge construction and maintenance, and we'll be getting somewhere.
will the port authority get any of that money or is it just all for roads
gotta make the commute quicker for the gas industry execs along 79 who use the airport a lot
@bear250220 - Pennsylvania Constitution, Article VIII, Section 11A, restricts motor fuels taxes to funding highway and bridge work. So, no.
