Rest in peace Mr. Sree

In case you haven't heard Mr. Sree co-founder of Sree's restaurant passed on this week after a long battle with ALS.

If you've ever been a bike messenger or worked downtown you've probably availed yourself to their economical and vegan friendly "curry in a hurry." I've met and lunched with many friends there over the years. Typically being served by Mr or Mrs. Sree personally.

Mr. Sree will be greatly missed by the cycling and vegetarian/ indian food loving community. (but I repeat myself...)

Thanks for posting this, Ted. I had no idea. Sree got me into Indian food back in the mid-late 90s at CMU. I frequented his "establishment" in the basement of Bldg D on campus almost every single day after I became vegetarian. Such a nice guy. He's going to be missed by a lot of people.

thanks for the info, they were always so nice. My brother used to go there so often that they invited him to their daughter's birthday party one year.

Yeah, thanks, Ted. I spent many a lunch time there during my working days in town.

Ted this is terrible news, but thank you for posting it. I first met Sree and his wife at their LONG gone restaurant in Sharpsburg ages ago. I worked downtown for 20 years and was never so happy as when Srees opened in Market Square, never so sad as when Terri (sp?) died and they had to close and then happy again when they reopened in the Triangle building. There was no better lunch and no better lunch value than Srees downtown. And oh, that orange-red stuff in the squeeze bottles. I loved that stuff. I always had a little extra zip riding my bike home in the evening if I'd had the three veggie lunch at Srees.

it's amazing how many lives this man touched with his wry sense of humor and full plates. a true loss and i send my best to his family. from what i understand, the restaurant will continue?

I hear they will continue business next week. Mrs. Sree puts out a tip cup for their daughter I intend to come by with a card and an extra donation.

A thread similar to this one was posted on the Pittsburgh Vegan Meetup Group, I'll have to check this place out

Ted will you post here after you are sure they reopened? I'd like to send something as well.

oh my god that is so sad.

Mr. Sree single handedly kept me from malnutrition for at least two years when I was in college - I had the eating habits of a kintergardener and no time to cook - for 3$ I knew I could eat well.

edited: memorial was yesterday.
