Riding in casual cloth...

We know that some board member don't like lycra. Here comes casual cloth riding in Russia. :) Well, this a girls event in Samara. More fun pictures here http://velosamara.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=35173&start=220

Does anyone consider a stiletto with a cleat casual clothing? Let alone a stiletto without a cleat?

Stilettos are casual clothing in Russia, Ukraine, Belorussia. :) At my work russain and some italian girls wear them all the time. My wife had 9 different pair of stilettos(two for winter, three for midseasons, 4 for summer). During my colledge time the lowest acceptable hill for girls was 8 cm (more than 3 inches). Having experienced chronic foot pain for 3 years I cringe at stilettos (or heels for that matter), let alone running in them. Lots of evidence shows that wearing a heel for extended periods of time shortens the achilles and then will cause pain when a heel is not being worn. I suppose that wouldn't be a problem if you are biking in them. Nevertheless, the girls sprinting in heels in that last link were really impresssive.

Well, I've heard the same thing. And I encourage my wife to get "off heels". :) This is on one hand. On another hand... My wife spent about 21 years on high heels or stilettos (just 5 years short when othe woment starts to switch to lower heels around 40-s in xUSSR). My mom kind of gave real high heel shoes around age 65 but even know (she is going to be 90 on May) she has 2.5 inches summer shoes she wears when she goes to church. Biking in high heels requires a lot skills. :) Heels could catch ground really easy. Nadezhda (you see her on picutes above) is an organizer of those Samara Veloclub Lady Rides. And just for fun she sacrificed her pair of shoes. Two guys you see at hte first photo helped her to install SPD clip (and steel pannel inside). This is a picture of first test ride. :) As for running... racing the public transportation was a norm for a lot of people back in USSR. There was almost no private cars. So you race a trollybus/bus, then you have to get in while trollybus designe for 90/120 people (including seats and staying positions) carries 120/150 people. And then you need to get out. :)

This was an enjoyable diversion. I'm amazed that women can move at all on 4" heels, let alone run or bike. Toss in a couple of very short skirts, and I find myself wondering why any woman, so informed, would not ride a bike. Answer: Reasons having nothing to do with riding bikes.

My old gilrfriend said taht riding in heels looks radical, but it's pretty much teh same as riding in flats - walking in heels is way different.
