So how about that power outage?

My power was out for about 9 hrs today from the storm. I slept through the storm, and only caught the last few minutes, was it really that bad?

From NOAA:

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WAS REPORTED CAPABLE OF

PRODUCING DESTRUCTIVE WINDS IN EXCESS OF 80 MPH.

THIS STORM HAS A HISTORY OF PRODUCING WIDESPREAD WIND DAMAGE ACROSSEASTERN OHIO AND NORTHERN WEST VIRGINIA. IN ADDITION...THERE IS NEARLY CONTINUOUS CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. SEEK SHELTER NOW INSIDE A STURDY STRUCTURE AND STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS!

For the record, I've never seen a NOAA warning that intensely worded. They usually exaggerate a tad, but I've never seen SEEK SHELTER NOW.

It was pretty nasty. Our power was out until midnight.

You know before I left my house I checked weather.gov and it said 40% chance of severe thunderstorm. By the time I got to West Mifflin it looked like the beginning of the Wizard of Oz.

If the power was out for longer than the half minute at OTB, I think I could've scored a free pint. They has Pumpking!

I walked from Oakland to Squirrel Hill as the storm rolled in yesterday. I don't think it was quite as strong in that area, but my full size umbrella was pretty much useless against the driving rain and wind. At one point I looked up and could see clouds scudding by a couple hundred feet over my head at high speed as it got darker and darker. My shoes will never be the same.

I was contemplating leaving work early to beat the storm. Glad I didn't try.

Good call, Lyle. 'Twas not the most fun weather in which to ride.

I was particularly fond of the way it hit in full force 5 minutes after I left the office, and died down 5 minutes before I got home.

Pretty bad here, the walk way to my patio looked like something extreme rafters would have liked. Power was out til about 1am

The power was out at OTB, but htye were still selling drafts. My debut on the OTB open stage, turned out to be sitting out front, in the dark, jamming.

I guess I got lucky. The storm was just getting near when I went inside for a class at 4:30. By the time class was done at 5:45 it had passed. I biked home and enjoyed my electricity until the wee hours of the morning.

Lights flickered in Moon at the height of the storm, but it had passed by the time I left. Oddly enough, when I got to my destination on Second Ave, the lights were on, but then inexplicably went off with blue sky overhead, and stayed off 10 minutes.

All the other bakeries lost power, and so today, we were picking up the slack, heh. We'd get calls and walk-ins of people from office parties and restaurants and such saying "this or that bakery is out of power, how much of your stuff can we reasonably buy?"

I didn't sleep last night though. My power was out until midnight as well, and I can't sleep during a power outage, I'm too paranoid about someone breaking in. made for a fun day today, haha.

Downed trees in South Oakland, lost power several times. Looked serious, but was short lived.

I had some Pumpking for the first time tonight - delicious. What's the ABV on that, cause i felt a bit more... frazzled than I should have...

delicious

Nom! It's 9.0% ABV. there are very few really good pumpkin spice ales, some of them are simply awful. Pumking is No. 1 in my book, with the Weyerbacher a close second. Both will make you a bit 'brahms and liszt.'

Michigan's Screamin' Pumpkin is my favorite. Pumking is good, but it seems theres a heavy variance in the stills this year. Whats on tap at fatheads is crap compared to what I drank from a growler from the brewery.

the fastest way for a brewery to ruin it's pumpkin ale is to serve it with the rim of the glass caked in cinnamon and sugar. I kid you not, the Pour House did this to me once a few years ago. Ruined a decent beer. If the beer had been better, I'd have been angrier.

Noah--I was thinking the same thing about that beer. Delicious, though.

Pumpking is already super sweet for a beer. I don't think adding extra crap to the glass would have altered it much.
