From the NY Times. A movie worth checking out.

I'm normally too dumb and unsophisticated for stuff like subtitles and "neorealism," but this is a great movie.

I may be biased--I saw it just after having the first and only new bike I ever purchased stolen. (I had it for two weeks and had just finished customizing it to my liking the night before it was stolen. Ugh.) Anyway, the movie perfectly captured that emotion. Even if you can't get into the plot, the movie is amazing for the street scenes. For one, all the characters are played by nonactors, they're just random people from around Rome. Second, it gives you a great sense of what travel in a dense metropolitan area was like before cars and trucks were the defacto mode of transportation. If that's what cities return to after peak oil then the wells can't run dry soon enough.

I just requested this from the Allegheny County Library. They have 2 copies available as well as a digital download that you can watch on your computer (There is a free program that you need to install, but once you get it set up it works pretty good and they have some decent movies for download)
