Nice article, the more of that kind of thing, the better. Though, the last line is a little fatalistic and disappointing - "If only America’s cities could be so free". The guy references Manhattan, but it's as if he is unaware of the huge "sea change" going on right under his nose in NYC. Mentions Euro planners and never even briefly mentions Janette Sadik Kahn.
Interesting, the Times links me to this, in Prevention magazine, Teri Hatcher, of the show "Desperate Housewives" bikes to work and does triathlons; "We were doing more green things around our house, and I thought, Well, I'm going to start riding to work. I was shocked by the sense of joy that I got--I had no anticipation that I would feel like I was a 5-year-old. I probably ride 50 miles back and forth to work, and some weekends, my girlfriends and I will do a more beautiful ride, like a 40-mile ride on Mulholland Drive."
That should get some people thinking.

Nothing new here, but a good Op-Ed in the NY Times by an American who spent some time living in Amsterdam.
...every Dutch child has to pass a bicycle safety exam at school. The coexistence of different modes of travel is hard-wired into the culture.
