(hip hip Hooray)!
At first I thought the announcement was just "Mayor declares today (today's date)" and was a little confused, but I like any reason to cheer Erok (dude, you're awesome )

Outstanding!!!
Huzzah! Congrats, Erok!
gawd. this is so embarrassing.
ooohs and aaaahs from the crowd
Congrats!
Thank you for all you do!
i honestly cheer erok daily. fantastic!
Gratz man that's freakin' awesome!!!
Erok for mayor!
Haha, is this going to be like a new holiday? Congrats!
I'm glad the major recognized Erok's efforts and at the same time, I wish the major would do more to further Erok's efforts
+1 congrats!
three snaps in a z formation
wow, people treat it like it's your birthday or something. at least the day after "mr eric boerer day" feels like it.
now if only he'd give me the keys to the city's paint truck
^^this.
And what Pierce said. Like, it's time for City Administration (whoever, whoever under them, and whoever under *them*) to actually get down and dirty and make happen the stuff we want to make happen. We filled out a bazillion postcards back on a frigid night in February at that thing in Lawrenceville. So, like, c'mon city, actually DO SOMETHING with what we said we wanted, x1000.
This is NOT to take anything away from Erok's big day. I just want to see real ACTION. Keys to *something* already.
*smack*

Oh come on now, let's not muck up eroc's congratulatory thread with bellyaching about the city not doing anything.
If someone would have told me 10 years ago we would have bike lanes, sharrows, bike trails, a full time bike/ped coordinator, a bike advocacy group with multiple full time employees, a 10 day long bike festival, dozens of neighbors who commute by bike, and thousands of people riding everyday, I wouldn't have believed a single one of those things. Eroc is a big part of making that stuff happen. Good job dude.
Nice erok, congrats.

You should have just gone out to paint guerilla-style, and if anybody gave you hassle, say "What? It's MY day!"
"Smithers, are they booing me?"
"Uh, no, they're saying 'Boerer! Boerer!"
Congrats Erok! Embarrassing or not, it's pretty damn cool.
this is so awesome!
Eric is getting even more press coverage... There's a write-up in the Pitt News this morning about almost everything bike related in Pittsburgh, including Eric.
that's a really neat article, thanks Richw.
It took Pgh 30 years to go from 10 worst to Bronze Friendly? I wonder what the other 10 worst are like now for bikes. (I did manage to find out that in 1987 Philly was THE worst, and this article shows their progress: http://www.phlmetropolis.com/2011/03/bicycle-city-the-future-has-two-wheels.php
(and another "Huzzah!" for Erok )
@ejwme there was an inaccuracy in that article. In 1990, Bicycling Mag named Pittsburgh one of the worst places to ride a bike, and LAB named us a bronze bicycle friendly community.
Congratulations Erok! And thanks to all who have helped in ways both large and small to make Pittsburgh a safer and better place to bike.
Wow! Hooray Erok for Mayor!!!
Attaboy.
