Intern needed for summer

Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission (SPC) is seeking a college (summer break) intern for our Bicycle/Pedestrian project (May – August).

This project includes day to day implementation of the SPC bicycle activity count program. Under this task the intern will assist SPC staff in the recruitment and training of volunteers for performance of bicycle activity counts, identify bicycle activity count locations and manage bicycle activity count data. Intern may also provide assistance to SPC staff in the assessment of walking and cycling infrastructure in the SPC region. Such assessments are based on computer (Google StreeView) and field observations of existing infrastructure such as sidewalk, trails, public steps, crosswalks, bike lanes, general roadway conditions and the like.

The preferred candidate would be enrolled in an undergraduate of graduate Urban and Regional Planning program, public health program or similar, with an interest in the promotion and facilitation of safe pedestrian, cycling and other commuting techniques and practices.

Familiarity with the Microsoft Suite of Products, specifically Excel. Must have access to a vehicle for in-region travel (approximately 10%) and a valid driver’s license. Hourly rate of $12.50 plus travel mileage.
