We tried to use crosswalk ones exactly like that at a streetscape rebuild in Forest Hills. But, PennDot.
That should be a verb. You got PenDotted!

I’ve seen one of those in person in Mountain View, CA. I think it could make sense at a mid-block crossing (Braddock seems like one obvious example), but I don’t think it would really help at intersections with traffic lights. it also doesn’t seem like it would be too effective for turning traffic.

Why not? The pedestrian crossing can start flashing when a human gets on it; the system can also flash the roadway in front of approaching cars, etc. Should work great, though maybe less so in bright sunlight (but that’s not the use case we’re talking about).

I can think of a great test bed, too: that intersection in front of the Target in East Liberty…
